The Avalanches, Tash Sultana, NYUON, Rufflefeather, PON CHO and VIVID LIVE

Holy shit, it’s like the PS5 Australia is about to land and our first weekly drool and The Avalanches just happen to drop one on us.

Here’s what we’ve taken serious notice of this week; The Avalanches make a triumphant return with Frankie Sinatra, Tash Sultana’s mind blowing national tour rears its end, Happy’s release of Melbourne rapper NYUON‘s latest track (this guy is going to be huge), Sydney band Rufflefeather release their new single ‘Sixaton‘, Nic Kelly and EMI’s new collaborative label Nigh High Recordings first signee PON CHO’s debut single ‘Lonely Walls’, and VIVID LIVE comes into it’s second weekend of art and music.

The Avalanches

Frankie Sinatra is the first track from their forthcoming album Wildflower dropped yesterday afternoon, marking the bands first release in SIXTEEN YEARS, and boy was it worth the wait. The band are geared up to play Byron Bay’s Splendour in the Grass next month, following Wildflowers release on Friday July 8th.

Tash Sultana

Sultana’s performance has been described as “the most authentic and natural musicianship *ever witnessed”, subduing audiences everywhere with her overwhelming soulful lyrics and masterful instrumentation. Tash concludes her Australian tour this weekend with her final performances in Adelaide and Warrnambool, before embarking on her World tour in September.

Nyuon

The Melbourne based rapper has taken the Aussie hip-hop scene and dumped it on its bucket hat covered head. The Happy Exclusive Track ‘They All Say’ is the latest release from the up and coming wordsmith, and it flows like a dream, expressing the importance of perseverance for creativity in an industry often censored by cavillers. Melbournites can catch NYUON performing as part of Real Songwriters Live, at Wesley Anne next Saturday June 11th.

Rufflefeather

Sydney psych rockers Rufflefeather, are not just your average Northern Beaches grunge band. The guys sat down with the lads from Happy to discuss their new single ‘Sixaton’, made available for download today via bandcamp, describing the track as an ode to the confusion and anxiety that are the symptoms of a hyper active imagination. Consider your feathers ruffled. The band will be launching the single tonight at Newtown’s Waywards with support from band mates Shamanic and Sundown State.
