PS I Love You

There’s so much to love about this song and band. Let’s just leave it at that for now.

Happy v2.0

For those who were involved with Happy! last year, it was a cross platform art event that invited musicians and poets to share the stage at a number of Sydney inner west venues and make a night of it. Other folk such as DPM assisted with the branding and logo design of the event. It doesn’t hurt that we share the same office space. It was popular then and Monday Records continue to get performance requests in particular from poets. Here at MR we’d like to see more of this happening out there! But if it doesn’t happen don’t fret, we’re thinking about Happy V2.0 for 2011. It will be bigger and it will be better. It may even need it’s own website and name upgrade. Happy Music Festival? Happy Arts Festival? Maybe.

Girl is the New Boy

About 12 months ago we released the GITNB single Lost Greyhound and digital sales have been doing really well since. The track also secured some really cool placements. We’re pleased to announce that we’ll be releasing the self titled Girl is the New Boy EP on the 8th of June so stay tuned.

Good Things

Sam Shinazzi bringing us some sweet inner west vibes. Plus how could you possibly go past a teddy bear and an ape in a boxing match?

Site Development

Monday Records is going through a process of rediscovering who we are and why we were put on this planet. It’s not the first time either. We still receive emails from bands and poets about Happy and we still get sent demos from bands that want to be signed. That was fun and we’ll probably do it again later in the year. But for now we’re turning our focus toward recorded music and the releasing there of. The guys at DPM Creative Group (who we are clearly in cahoots with), are helping re-design and re-develop our brand and website. We’re going to be doing this on the fly so expect ongoing changes. What will emerge is the true heart and soul of the label and people will be able to see that (we hope). We’re also talking to a couple of Sydney bands / singer songwriters so expect some growth on the stable front.

Syncs + Digital Sales

We’ve been working hard at getting our bands heard. That can and often does create an income. Nice. And although it seems today’s posts are all about money, business is about money because without it we don’t exist. Recent highlights include a massive surge on the digital front. We’re talking sales every single day for the first time in our history which is fantastic. Our digital setting have always been EVERYTHING THAT PAYS. It’s time to reconsider Circle’s status and possible opt out of lower paying digital options. We’re huge fans of Mana Music here and they too have touched base again regarding a possible Bondi Rescue Sync. Lovely. Further highlights include an email from Pitchfork about the Circle covers which they like but held off on posting. Hard not to grit your teeth but at least there’s a dialogue.

Even The Boss isn’s Safe!

Circle’s September Gurls cover was loved by one and all when it dropped two weeks ago. Positive feedback and video watches are proof people are digging the new music. It’s still getting hits every day and we hope that trend doesn’t stop. We loved it of course! It seems however that less people knew the Big Star cover and so this little beauty is getting certain folks titties in a twist. We love that even more! Go titties…*

*We also like panties in a knot…
