Pikachunes is the dark pop solo project of Miles G. Loveless. The now Melbourne-based New Zealander is who you want to hear when someone tells you to listen to some sad pop. His music is brooding, dark yet playful, and that’s what fans have come to love so much about it. Having his health tested on numerous occasions, his passion for music has shone through and despite a life-threatening illness, Pikachunes has conquered all in pursuit of his music.
After finishing a national tour in 2009 with O’Lovely and Tiger Tones Pikachunes released his debut self titled EP in 2010 through Lil’ Chief Records. The single from the album, “Nervous,” was dubbed an “addictive Pet Shop Boys-esque lead single.” Following the release he released music videos for both “Nervous” and “Just a Boy.”
He went on to perform live in New Zealand, The East Coast of the United States, and has made multiple tours of Europe, often sharing shows with then label mate Princess Chelsea. He has played alongside groups like Star Slinger, Gold Panda, Bachelorette and Casiotone For The Painfully Alone.
In February 2013 he released the EP Miles on Lil’ Chief Records. It features his remix of the Kids of 88 track “Tucan”, and guest appearances by Boycrush and Zowie. In 2015 Pikachunes coordinated the soft LP release of Allely with Noisey prior to signing a record deal with Monday Records.
Pika’s most recent work since signing with Monday Records is the release of his single ‘You Are’, which premiered on Purple Sneakers and has since been re-worked by fellow Melbourne producer and rising talent Owen Rabbit. The premiere of the animated video on Noisey was the final slam-dunk for ‘You Are’ as the first taste of his forthcoming album Allely. Following the singles release Pikachunes has flexed his range, taking on ALPINES addictive track ‘Crunches’ in the form of a killer remix.
